Douglas Adams is one of the few people I've ever truly considered a hero. His writing, particularly the Hitchhiker's Guide To The Galaxy series, got me through some tough times in high school and has been an inspiration to me ever since.
I'm honored to say that I met in person at E3 1998 and was able to shake his hand and tell him how much his works meant to me.
Douglas, I'm sorry you had to leave us so soon.
(And those of you who know HHGTG but haven't read his Dirk Gently novels, dive into them. A bit denser then the HHGTG books but just as excellent...)

I discovered HHGTTG when we had to write a report on a book for english class. I looked through all the available books and thought that HHGTTG looked at least like it could be funny (I was big on Aasimov's non-fiction work back then).
I thought it was amazing and quickly worked through the rest of the series.
RIP Douglas Adams.
