What's wrong with Rc Cola? Its awesome. Don't knock the 25 cents cans of cola goodness! xfusionx 2010 days ago on 03/09/05 Equipped: Nevada Girl Hoodie named "all murder, all guts, all fun." "You take a bunch of people who lead very different lives but just happen to have one common interest, stick them in the same hotel for a weekend, remove personal space, food, and sleep, and add in stress - what do you think you're going to get out of that mixture?"
I don't quite understand this statement. Why exactly would they be deprived of food and sleep? And where does the stress come from? You make it sound like cosplaying is some intense corporate job with deadlines and possible downsizing. Ayaka 2010 days ago on 03/09/05 xfusionx - I'm guessing you're not a cosplayer and have never stayed in a hotel room with one.
Cosplay SHOULDN'T be stressful. That doesn't mean it isn't. Most cosplayers take it dead seriously, even though there's no logical reason to (like, work you're being paid to do). And for some reason, the work always expands to fill the time available - I have never known a cosplayer (personally) who wasn't doing SOMETHING in the hotel room at the con - from major costume construction to minor repairs, but something. Speaking as someone who was trying to hotglue themselves into their costume 15 minutes AFTER their skit was supposed to be onstage . . . trust me, it's stressful. Peak Awesome or something like that?
I also recall drinking a soda called Doctor Lynn. Perhaps I shall change it to that. positivespace 2010 days ago on 03/09/05 Equipped: Devo Hat named "Travel-sized Mayan temple for your convenience!" BARON SPLENDID 2010 days ago on 03/09/05 Equipped: Technique scroll: "Stealth Hump" named "shibari no jutsu" As another cosplayer, I'd like to mention to anyone considering or just getting into it that the drama avoidance thing is VERY true, and that shouldn't be your goal. Rather than avoiding the drama, you need to make it your bitch. Find some entertaining drama queens, and then rile them up, and proceed to be amused. I mean, if you're going to swim in this sea of crap, you might as well get a laugh out of it. And overdramatic cosplayers are some of the funniest little bitches out there. KireiC 2009 days ago on 03/10/05 Equipped: Chicken & Waffles named "My baby daddy love him some Roscoes!" Awesome article! I think all cosplayers can relate to most of it. I know I can.
xfusionx, even OUTSIDE of cosplayer rooms, cons can get dramatic - registration lines are long; you might get lost trying to get there; you may be saddled with a less-than-welcome companion or sibling; food and water can be scarce, too far away, or too expensive within convenient reach; then, of course, many forego sleep during cons in favor of late-night events, gaming, viewings, and then early workshops the next day. Cosplay just adds to these factors - last-minute cosplay fixes replace mealtime, take up free time that would be otherwise spent relaxing, and preclude pre-con sleep as well as at-con sleep, so you start with a deficit and it just gets worse! But yeah, great article. Rules to cosplay by! Mrs. Mink 2009 days ago on 03/10/05 Equipped: Chia Mr. T named "I pitty the loof!" Yeah you know, people should know that crap before getting into it. And if you like it at all, that drama crap is impossible to aviod. However, it seems to be possible to get past and move on from and actually, you know, ENJOY the friggin hobby after a while :) Starfire 2007 days ago on 03/12/05 Equipped: Servbots named "They do my evil bidding for me."
