Since I gained about 25 pounds of fat (not even compensating for lost muscle) since the end of August, I really wanna shed those fuckin fats away and look mad sexy again. It's mostly going to consists of a half hour of olypticals (however you spell it), and afterwards a balanced lifting regiment to tone myself out. GETTING HUUUUUUUUUUUUGE. Oh yeah, and I got my mom an early Christmas present in the form of Wii Fit Plus, so I do about a half hour on that almost everyday (except weekends) to monitor my progress. Thunderer 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Poke-ball named "Hey, kid. Want some ...candy?" I lots ten pounds this month with light exercise and some pretty heavy diet changes. I'm hoping I can make myself work out even more and make bigger improvements in my lung team. Izeekial 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Vash's Gun named "Vash's Gun is way smaller than my guns" Goal: Beat everyone and take overall at WA State Iron Man 2010 Bodybuilding in October.

Since I've had this carpal tunnel bullshit, I've been majorly sedentary out of my own stubbornness. Then, they put me on steroids to bring down the inflammation. I weigh more than I ever have in my life now and I can't button my favorite pair of jeans :C I'm 5 minutes away from my gym when I'm at work. so working out on my lunch hour is a good option for me. I'll tend to do it more often too cause I hate my desk and it's nice to leave. But what's my best option to just basically shed a few (okay what feels like a zillion) pounds of flab and stay toned? I tend to do more cardio than anything now, because the carpal tunnel really limits the types of strength things I can do, I can't put pressure on a bent elbow. I've been ellipticalling the hell out of 30 minutes, but is it going to do what I want it to do? It feels good and I break a major sweat! RogueSamus said: As far as losing weight goes (along with your carpel tunnel), stay away from weights for now. What's your resistance on the elliptical? If you're pushing it hard (like level 7+) and fast you should be fine. If that's still not what you're looking for the treadmill is a good alternative. The elliptical will make your butt rounder while running will take off mass, heh. If you really want to lose a gut you should be doing martial art kicks on a bag. They do more wonders than any sit-up. PS: Also, you can always do rope jumping for a good 30 - 45 minutes. Look up www.buddyleejumpropes.com and get the aero speed rope because it has ball bearings and it swivels around.
All in all, be sure to work hard and break a good sweat. If you can make a sweat angel while lying on the ground, you're good to go. :) mheart 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Rope Of Infinite Bondage I walk, jog, or run 4x week right now, usually at about 4PM. Coming out of a sedentary period and it's 30 mins on a trail. There's a neighborhood nearby I'm switching to tonight. PS: Thanks for this thread! nomad 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Cockblast of Vengence named "A burst of rainbow fruit flavor in your mouth" I've been mostly trying to change my diet, basically eat better and less. My work out routine is still 3 times a week with legs/shoulders... chest/upper & mid back...biceps/triceps/lower back.
Getting older really sucks because its really, really hard to stay motivated and you start feeling your workouts getting harder to do and energy diminish considerably. Also, it takes you twice the time it did before to recoup. :( :'( T_T RogueSamus 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Technique Scroll: "31337 H4CK|NG SK|LLX0RZ" named "The D.E.N.N.I.S. System" Rick I am old too and I am all "i don't wanna work out I'm tired." >:(
Haha Billy I'm scared, I don't know if I want my butt any rounder!! Would switching up elliptical/treadmill on different days be just as good? Is five days a week for 30 minutes too much /too little? I always hear different things about how much and often you're supposed to do. My knees are pretty shady so I always try to be kind to them! If I still have this muffin top I am NOT wearing my Lilith costume so it has to gooooo PS: also damn the steroids made me get huuuuuge but not in the good way. except my left boob is like one cup larger than it used to be, i suppose that would be good ... if the right one would catch up! roscaf 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Portable Confessional. I've basically been trying to do 4x a week and am watching what i eat again since I've been 10 lbs heavier than i like to be for way too long now.
Hopefully by Xmas I'll be back to my goal weight. but I hold no promises. I guess it's good in a way that I always hated exercise, because I don't find it any harder now than I did twenty years ago, but at least now I have the maturity and discipline to stick with it. I see a personal trainer twice a week. This guy is excellent but pricey; he's not at a gym, he's got his own studio and equipment and everything. But you get what you pay for: each session he gives his total attention and there are no distractions. He's been training for almost 20 years and he's a master at pushing me right to the edge, so I get more out of the session since I don't work out as often as I could. Each session is an hour and includes ab work, cardio (with lots of leg work), strength training (alternating front and back) and stretching. The best thing about him is that he focuses on overall wellness so he tries to get you eating better, managing your stress, etc. I have actually had to adjust my budget significantly since he costs as much per month as my first apartment! (It wasn't that great an apartment, but still.) On the other hand, I feel better than I have in many, many years and I don't wince when I see myself in the mirror or in pictures. Now if I could just lose this last fifty pounds... Mers 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: JEDI DICK named "WOMB STRETCHA!" I've been in a cutting phase as I already have plenty of size. It sucks being an ectomorph. I've been eating super clean following a simple set of guidelines and it's been really effective. I'm trying to view it as a lifestyle change rather than a temporary diet.
http://www.elitefts.com/documents/lean_healthy.htm I've been battling carpal tunnel as well. They had me on NSAIDs, but I've cut those with the docs permission as the partial numbness is gone. I've stayed on the vitamin b6 though that he advised and found some exercises that have helped more than anything. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hUyMNyrOHJQ I dropped some coin on a gym-quality rowing machine and converted my dining room into a small home gym with a bench and dumbbells too. That way it is always in view, in the living room or on the way to the kitchen, as a constant reminder that I need to exercise more. I'd had it in the basement previously but honestly wasn't using it as much at first. Out of sight out of mind I guess. I chose the rowing machine as it's low impact on my knees. My left knee is mostly scar tissue thanks to football and some asinine things I did in the gym when I was younger and trying to bulk up for the highland games. Dio 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Power Armor Upgrade: "Screw Attack" Since taking some time off, my strength has increased by quite a bit. I am now using the 45lb kettlebell with ease, the eliptical and treadmill are my bitch.
I start off on the eliptical with level 17 and do about 1.25 to 1.50 miles in about 10-12 mins. Then I go downstairs and do my kettlebell routine with sime finger and knuckle pushups (30 each). After the warm up I go and my normal routine for the day with my boys. When that is over with I go and run on the treadmill for about 1-2 miles. Go home, try to rest and repeat the next day The Naniwa Tiger 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Kato Mask named "More than meets the eye. Bruce Lee in disguse!" RogueSamus said: Duration depends on your mode of training. Since you're looking to lose weight, 30 to 60 minutes is just fine. If you're that concerned about your knees I would suggest avoiding the treadmill. The elliptical is good in the aspect that it doesn't create impact on your joints, especially your knees. An alternative would be a recumbent bike, which is a stationary bike that sits back instead of upright. The structure of the bike will leave less pressure on your knees than otherwise. General note to everyone: remember that even though you're working out so much, you might not see a change in weight. That's because you might have lost fat, but gained muscle. What you want to lose is the body fat percentage. Also, exercise needs to be complimented with a healthy diet. I'm not talking about a temporary fad diet, but a healthy change in overall eating habits. Sure, you can eat what pleases you from time to time, but if you want the best results you need to be careful of what you are taking in. Tuesday and Thursday generally are generally crossfit days with a bit of light cardio at the end. HeavyArmsDan 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Pimp Hat named "Shady Hat (Charisma +1)" What I have the most trouble with, and I'm sure other people do too, is trying to shake off the belly fat. Now I know doing situps/crunches is NOT the way to go, and having a healthy diet and doing cardio is one of the best ways to burn it off. I actually tried doing some interval running on the treadmill and I really felt the difference!
But what about exercises for the core? Like pilates and stuff. I really don't do them, and I really don't hear people talking about them all that much. Izeekial 3 years ago on 11/23/09 Equipped: Vash's Gun named "Vash's Gun is way smaller than my guns" Diet and cardio makes abs. All this "core" training is crazy to me just need to lean out.
