so, a few months ago I was recovering from an arm fracture and lost quite a bit of strength. Today, my arms are in pain because I overdid it trying to do pull-ups. I can do 2~3 using a parallel grip, but I need some time in-between my sets. I feel my posture is different now that I'm able to do this, but I haven't taken pics.

Also, I'm trying to even out by adding squats, jumping squats, and toe rises to my misc routine.

Does anyone use grip gloves while doing their routines?

OK let's start on cardio? How much do you do in a week? I would start slowly like 30 mins 3 times a week and start upping this to 4 times and so on. Then start increasing your time. Depending in how lean you want to be or whatever certain dietary conditions need to change like replace your carbs with more fat. The reality is you are going to lose muscle as you cut to a certain degree that's just a fact if you are doing this "naturally" so I am not going to lie to you there. The bright side is building a physique is all based on illusions. The leaner you get the bigger you will appear to be so don't let cutting detour yourself. What's your diet looking like?
PS: Oh wanted to throw one more thing out there. The cardio is just a supplement to your regular training so you need to continue lifting like you had all the extra energy from before you began your cardio regiment. The will help cut down the muscle loss, but fact is you will lose some muscle. Your goal is going to be losing as little as you can.

Thanks Zeek, I was kinda more asking about diet then exercise, I do at LEAST 20 minutes of cardio daily and thats in addition to my lifting, I lift on a 4 day split, Chest & triceps, Back & Biceps, Shoulders & Abs and finally Legs.

My diet is where its really lacking, although I eat very healthy I do NOT track my portions, often I think I over eat, and even though I eat good carbs, I might be eating too many of them... I seriously need to start tracking my portions.

Nomad, that made the biggest difference for me a couple years back. Pretty much all I did was switch up how much I was eating and a little bit of what and I went from sorta maintaining/dropping very little weight to dropping a huge amount.

I thought I was doing the right things diet wise until somoene smacked me in the head and pointed out where I was going wrong.

Starting back on that track now cause I havent done fuckall since being in NZ.

So, have any of you done anything with Convict Conditioning? Of all the programs I've looked at, it seems like the best for me so far. I'm going to talk to my physical therapist on Wednesday when I finally start and make sure it's safe and everything, but I just wanted to know if any of y'all had tried it. Let me know if I'm in the wrong thread since it's body weight training.

Convict Conditioning is release by the same company who I am kettlebell certified with. Their programs are pretty goddamn good and I've always found some great stuff in their DVDs and book. I don't own CC but people have raved about it.

Hey everyone been awhile since I last posted here. Right now I am sitting at 285lbs and growing. I've leaned out a lot growing into my bigger size and will post some new pics asap. One more year and I think I can start really competing at the super heavy weight class which would be appropriate for my height. I do have one recommendation for both men and women training on here. After speaking with a figure competitor friend of mine she suggested my girlfriend and I start using a digestion supplement called Digest-All from MRM. It has really cut down on the bloating and gas I was getting from eating 5k calories a day and is something I did not know a lot of competitors use. Keep up the good work everyone!

Swoll is short for swollen, so it's like saying "jacked," "ripped" or "buff."

I ran 30 miles! I twisted my ankle about 5 miles in! It was hilly technical course at night and my headlamp batteries were dying. I'd like to think I learned a lot from this experience, but I'm also looking for another race to do it again, so maybe not.

After a few years of working out and trying things out I think I've finally found the truth about what works FOR ME.

I say FOR ME because everyone is different and anyone who says they have a formula that will work on EVERYONE is lying. BUT, there are underlying concepts that DO work for everyone. I'm gonna expand on these a bit.

If you want to build big muscles, you need to lift heavy. Its that simple. Forget diet as being a decisive factor. I mean, your diet IS important but its not as important as lifting HEAVY weights and consistently. The entire thing about protein and how much you need of it is really also not important, by this I mean you can eat a million grams of protein but not gain any muscle if you dont LIFT HEAVY WEIGHTS. Dont worry too much about protein and carbs and shit, worry about having a healthy diet, the muscles will be built be EFFORT AND STRAIN not by how much protein you ingest.

What is heavy weights anyway? Heavy weights doesn't mean lift 5 billion pounds. It means a weight that is HARD for YOU. I found keeping my rep range to 8 works for me. Your last rep you should fail at 6 or 7 or at least complete the 8th but as if you were going to die or your muscles pop out.

The Machines VS free weight thing. You hear it all the time, free weights are better. I kinda disagree. Free weights are better IF YOU HAVE A SPOTTER. If not, use machines. Its REALLY hard going to failure if you dont have a spotter to catch the bar before it falls on your neck. I've found using machines and going to failure on them work GREAT. I do 5 sets and my last sets I usually go to around 5 to 6 rep range and fail. Again I can lift HEAVY with machines so I recommend them if you want to build muscle and dont have/dont want to annoy people with spotting. Use free weights though for exercises where you dont need a spotter, I.E. Bicep Curls, Shoulder presses, etc.

PS: Losing weight/Cardio/Diet. These 3 are interdependent. If you want to lose weight/tone/get a six pack, these 3 factors are the MAJOR thing you should focus on and #1 is diet. Without a proper diet you can work out all day all night and never see results. You MUST be at a caloric deficit at the end of the day to lose muscle. That simple.

In the opposite spectrum, getting big muscles is the opposite, you need a surplus at the end of the day, NOT A HUGE SURPLUS, but you need to have something for your muscles to grow, otherwise your body will turn that food into fat and store it. Forget the six pack, at least while your building muscle...build the muscle and then cut down and tone up.

Supplements. This should be the LAST thing on your mind. Dont even THINK about this shit until you figured out what works for YOU. After that experiment, dont listen to what adds and magazines and other people say, try it yourself, if you see a difference, GOOD, keep using it, if you dont drop that shit. Creatine and protein poder are the ONLY things I take that have worked for me and again, thats like 1% to 5% of results, basically I could not use them at all and it would make no big difference.

These things work for ME. Im not an expert so take this info very loosely, its not an exact science, people are different and what works for me might not work for you, so really try things out, explore and see what works for you.
