Gen. Chat “What are you reading right now?” by Ryan the LionRyan the Lion 3 years ago on 12/29/09 Equipped: Radtaculous Glove of POWWWEER named "Knife-proof bionic hand!" I could've sworn there was a thread like this up somewhere at some point, so link & lock if I'm stepping on toes.
I'm about 100 pages into The Difference Engine by Gibson & Sterling and I'm loving every word of it. So far it succeeds at being the very best sort of science fiction - the type that doesn't rub it in your face. I'm going to hit up the library this afternoon and see if I can't get my hands on a copy of Delaney's The Blue Devils in Italy which chronicles the 88th Infantry Regiment during WWII that my grandpa fought in. Next in my queue is the Ciaphas Cain novel, For the Emperor. Which I will now refer to as "For the Nerdiness". Followed by Lone Survivor ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lone_Survivor ) which is supposed to be an incredible read. They're even making it into a movie. I hope they do those SEALs justice. They always catch my eye, but in the past I've opted for the Horus Heresy books. Chrispy 3 years ago on 12/29/09 Equipped: Starman named "Doo-doo doo, doo-doo-doo doo-doo-dee-doo." Dude, the Ciaphis Cain story is superb. Do yourself a favor and get it NOW. Kaziel 3 years ago on 12/29/09 Equipped: Pimp Hat named "Warlock's Chapeau" Currently reading "The Right Nation" ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Right_Nation ). Probably my first "serious" book in a long time (as opposed to my usual gamut of not quite trashy but certainly not high-class books). This is probably the first step for me towards getting a much broader political view and I'm pretty pleased with myself for actually doing it instead of sticking to my comforting escapism novels.
