Seriously, it is good to hear that whatever luck she and Eron have been able to have, that they have had it. Sounds like this trend should continue, and I hope it does. Is it too soon to send Eron random dick pics?

Heya, I just got the go-ahead from Eron for us to copy-paste his Facebook updates about Callie's here. Not that I thought he'd mind, but you know - gotta ask!

So if anybody who is friends w/ Callie or Eron on Facebook sees a FB that isn't on OB, feel free to copypasta it here. (Yeah, low-tech, I know!)

God I haven't seen that BC08 pic in a long time!! We all drove up to Henderson together and then we all got naked! AND WE WILL DO THIS AGAIN SOME DAY IN THE FUTURE! Callie is awesome and will fight through this

I just have to say that while I only 'know' Eron from Facebook, he has blown me away with his dedication to updating everyone on Callie's status. I know what it's like when a family is on ICU standby and him taking the time and having the constitution to let Callie's friends know the details is going above and beyond what you'd expect in a situation like this. This guy is an A+ outstanding individual and I am so impressed with his devotion to Callie.

I don't know if I should post this year, but...I dunno, I have to write about it somewhere.

A few years ago, back when Callie and I were all about Kingdom Hearts, I remember seeing a keychain in the shape of Demyxs' Sitar (the weapon that the character uses) on sale at a shop in Chinatown, NYC. I remembered that I was buying it and the guy gave me a price, and I was ready to pay for it, and Callie immediately stopped me, giving me this 'Are you serious?' look.

She quickly bartered with the owner of the shop and talked him down to half price for the keychain. Since then, that keychain was always on my keyring for every car that I've driven in my life.

This past Sunday, however, the keychain broke when I was coming home from work. Happened right outside a gas station I pulled into. Thankfully it happened right in front of me so I have all the pieces.

Yet it kinda irked me that the keychain came apart the same day Callie was injured. I don't know if it's Gods funny sense of humor or something, but when that thought came across my mind, that memory immediately sprung back into my head.

I've been reading all the updates on Erons FB wall, a man whom I've never met (but I hope that changes sometime in the future). This mans dedication to her is one that seriously leaves me in awe; it's a couple like this that makes me so happy to see people so dedicated to each other.

I guess the whole point of this is hopefully for it to be seen by Callie, because I would've written this on FB but...well, I figured it was more suited for here.

Callie, we all love you and hope for your speedy recovery. And should we get a chance to rekindle our friendship somewhere down the line, the next keychain is on me.

Yeah, I ended it on a silly note; so sue me.

Can we persuade this Eron guy to join OB? I'll totally buy him some time.

Ugh. If my "reward" for recovery was being surrounded by a bunch of vagina, I'd bribe a nurse to fill my ventilator tube with Drain-O.

I'm not sure if I missed this part of the story but was the man who hit Callie arrested? I was wondering what happened if he hit and run or they found him.

He didn't go anyplace, I doubt his vehicle was capable of it.

It's not known to us if he was driving impaired, distracted or anything like that and if we was arrested, bailed or let go. The police haven't made that information public yet.

I only met Callie a few times, but she was an absolute sweetheart to me every time, and if y'all are taking donations of jewelry and crochet/knit goods then I have a few stockpiled that I made that I don't wear/use.

Update 5 Pt. 1:

Today has been wonderfully boring — as Lola mentioned, they are describing her as text book progression with no surprises. As Lola also mentioned, it was boring enough that I finally let myself crash out and slept most of the evening.

To get the bad news out of the way first, as of late tonight they think her brain is starting to peak in swelling, so this next period will probably be the hardest. She's in a CT scan to confirm this, so make sure to send her extra love! Again, no major changes just yet, and this is exactly how they expect these injuries to progress.

Update 5 Pt. 2:
On the good news front, she actually opened her eyes fully on a couple of occasions today when they were prodding at her! They weren't tracking yet, but it's a good sign overall. Additional good news is that while they are still waiting on the computers to crunch all the quantitive data from the PET scan, the qualitative (read: "doctors looking at the scans") assessment seems to show as fairly symmetrical, which means that her brain is using energy in a fairly regular way. She only shows some minor asymmetry (which would be indicators of damaged parts).

Sorry if this hasn't been as complete as the last couple of updates, I'm just waking up and wishing I hadn't grabbed 50/50 decaf coffee. If you haven't seen the other post, this Saturday, if anyone wants to drop by Westwood we're up for grabbing lunch/coffee at around 1PM. Just let me know!

I keep thinking there's gotta be a way to help. I ain't got much money and I ain't got much time that lines up with others, but I do have some talents. Just wish I knew a way to put em to good use for Callie's sake.

I went to Comikaze today and Sheyne from the League of S.T.E.A.M. (from the latest Panic! At the Disco music video and fun antics at various cons fame) has put up a donation box lovingly called Callie Care with a Hello Kitty stationary note explaining her situation. There's a lot of love for Callie coming from complete strangers who all want her to get better.

I don't know Callie, but I heard about what happened through FB and I've been keeping my fingers & toes crossed for her since.

Day 6 Pt. 1:

Today's update will be a few antidotes and some rambling and not much else since thankfully she remains cruising along exactly as they expect. The only small complication that's taken up the past 24 hours was that the first brain probe that they use to monitor ICP ("Inter-cranial Pressure", which like the other ICP, is something very negative) wasn't working correctly despite being put in perfectly. They tested and fiddled with it all today to no avail and ended up having to do some a minor surgery to put in a different style of probe in a different area — It's in place, calibrated and working correctly as of tonight thankfully. She is still very sensitive to any stimulation so the best thing the three of us can do is sit in the room quietly.


We finally had a chance to meet the robo-doc, which, and I don't know if anyone else found it one tenth as funny as I did (I know Callie would have laughed herself silly if she had seen it) but the first thing it did was slam in the the doorframe and go "Hello nurse" in a monotone voice. Maybe we were all delirious with lack of sleep since it was during the morning rounds but there is something both profoundly awe-inspiring and tremendously silly about talking to a robot that has a highly articulated screen-face with the doctor's face on it about positron scanning at the foot of your loved-one's hospital bed. It is an amazing tool though, since the screen-face can also display CT scans and such which the doctor who is piloting it can annotate in real time. The future is now and the future is taking care of Callie.


I wanted to say thanks to anyone that dropped by for lunch to support Callie — sorry if I was a bit discombobulated or said anything weird, it was the first time any of us had been around more than a couple of people since the accident, and at least for me it was a tad [a lot] overwhelming. If anyone wants to stop by at any point by yourself or in a small group, you'll probably get a bit more engagement from me. Just let me know when and I can make some time.


As I was leaving for lunch I said "bye" and brushed her hand lightly as I do whenever I come and go. But this time and she actually grabbed my hand and squeezed it. I know I shouldn't read to much in to it since I probably just bumped a bruised finger and it annoyed her or something, but it's still another teensy step forward! Keep up the prayers, thoughts and love for her, we still have some tough times ahead, but I know Callie is tough enough to fight through this! Also wish Tucker a good flight tomorrow as he heads off to Minnesota!


To end on a couple of bright notes, first, my parents in a very happy coincidence happened to be attending an NPR fundraiser last night. For those of you who know Callie, you might recall her love of bad puns means that she is a huge fan of Wait Wait, Don't Tell Me (NPR's weekly news quiz show). For ages she has been trying to get me to call in so she can get Carl Kasell's voice on her voicemail. Well, my parents got to meet him and he signed a card and took a photo for her wishing her a speedy recovery!

Update 7 Pt 1:

This is the week marker - Amazingly, her accident happened almost seven days ago exactly from when I'm writing this. Not that I could honestly have been able to tell you that if Lola hadn't reminded me, since it's been weird hours, long days and sleeping at 2PM or 6AM or not at all on any given day. That said, at the meeting with the doctor this morning they gave us some small good news again, which is that according to the CT from this morning her swelling had gone down for the first time.

Update 7 Pt 2:

Last night was a bit rough after the update, since her readings were spiking around a lot and I ended up sleeping on a chair all night to be with her though that difficult point (also at one point yesterday afternoon I forgot to mention that she somehow had the hiccups). Today, after looking at the scans, Dr. Vepsa is actually comfortable enough with how she's doing that they took out a couple of the internal measuring devices today to help minimize the risk of infection. Even though she is still unconscious, the nurses are also starting to work with her hands and feet to help her retain muscle tone as much as possible. (The fact that they can stop worrying exclusively about her brain and start worrying about other things is a small step forward but still feels great!)

I am so cautiously excited.
