One other annoying thing about lose it is that it sometimes dramatically overestimates calories burned (especially with something like an elliptical trainer), so instead of saying "40 minutes at light resistance" I have to say 10 or 15 to get an accurate count. And then everyone will make fun of me for being puny.

Calorie counting should be a tool, not something set in stone. Your own individual needs vary from day to day, its a good way toe stablish a barometer but its in no way exact, it cant really count how hard/easy your body worked.

Light resistance for someone who's a beginner can be just as hard and can burn just as much calories as an advanced person doing an intense session.

The counter is a great way to keep track of what you eat, alot of times we forget that we snacked on something and forgot to add it up and then we realise oh thats why I'm not losing weight. Also, you might eat 2000 calories at breakfast, does that mean you cant eat anything else during the day? Of course not, but you'll know, hey I need to make myself smaller breakfasts and divide the calories thought my entire day.

Bottom line is everyone should use their body as barometer, not a counter, if you're not losing weight, then eat less or exercise more. If you're losing weight but not gaining muscle, then you need to slow the cardio and intensify your weights.

Like everything else in life, you need to use common sense.

I don't think of it as calorie counting but rather keeping my food intake in check. When you eat that triple cheese burger you REALLY see it and I think that is how it helps.

TOTALLY, will make you think twice about eating it for sure!

But, my post was more in lines with exercise tracking. Exercise is really really hard to put into "I burnt 1000 calories during this session". There are so many factors that determine how much you burn, even at rest after a work out you're still burning calories faster then someone who didnt move off his ass all day.

I enjoy the reliability of numbers when factoring in my exercise/calories but it's definitely not more important than how I actually, physically feel during and after a workout and through the course of the day. It's just nice to be able to have a semi-scientific data set so I can look back week to week and see how I'm doing, what I'm eating, and areas where I can improve.

I think there's something about numbers that gets people motivated; for better or worse, it makes it look like there's progress even when you can't physically tell by looking in a mirror. I'm sure that can be misleading, but personally I find it helps a lot.

I always take the stairs at work instead of the elevator, it is only three floors but those three floors make a difference because I am sitting all day long. I always take the long way to the copy machine/printer and the long way back to the fax machine. When i am sitting I take 5 minutes periods to kind of kick my legs under my desk.

Little things to combat the fact that I a sitting on my ass for most of the day.

That stuff is REALLY hard to calculate into your overall day with these type of applications. If they have a note section I always type it in. It all adds up eventually.

I'm a fan of Fitocracy, but wish they had an app since its way more convenient.

In terms of trackers I've used FatSecret, My Fitness Pal, and others, but LoseIt! Is my favorite. I'm enchanted.dream@gmail.com on there.

Joined Fitocracy today. It's TJHairball for any of you stalkers out there. Hit level 4 in an hour-long workout. Imagine that's going to taper off quickly, but it'll be interesting to see how well it works once in applying the invisible peer pressure for me.

I love Fitocracy! Logging my workouts shows me where I need to change it up, add more, etc. Most of the people there are supportive and helpful - it's a good community.

I tried using DailyBurn Tracker... It's kind of a pain in the ass to log stuff, and it didn't have as good/organized a food library as FatSecret. However, I love the stat and nutrient tracking aspects of it.
Still rocking Fitocracy though.

I kind of feel there are WAY too many choices between fitness trackers now. I mean you have Fitocracy, Lose It!, My Fitness Pal, & Daily Burn for starters. It is hard to get everyone to use the same one let alone know which ones has the best and most features.

I liked Lose It! because it was so super simple to share your day with friends. It was easy to break down your day and it would send me awesome messages to keep me going.

Are the rest like that? what are the pros and cons to using the one that you have? What kinds of features do each of them have?

I just downloaded the MyFitnessPal app for Android and I have to say I like it a lot better than LoseIt so far. I'm Drinzilla if any of you are still using it and want to add me. Like Lisa I tend to lose my motivation pretty quickly.
