So the legendary singer has passed. I was never really a "fan" per se, but I can't deny that she was a fantastic singer, has recorded some great hit records and not to mention has probably the most memorable singing of the National Anthem ever.

Thoughts? Memories associated with her songs?

I know that one of my former coworkers who moved to Korea was named for Whitney.

I find it equally disrespectful and funny that #crackkills is trending on twitter. So so many people saying how it's disrespectful, but knowing that is how she lived at least part of her life. Oh well.

RIP Whitney.

I had to call my mother when I found out because I was sure she hadn't heard yet.

Her first album was the first music I ever listened to for me and not just as "stuff Mom and Dad play in the car." Somewhere there is a videotape of me singing "The Greatest Love of All." Whitney was the first artist that I liked for me.

This is devastating and incredibly sad. I hope she's found some measure of peace finally.

Just realized that the Grammys are tomorrow and the Oscars are a couple weeks away. Wow. Take as minute to realize how big she once was. Hope the montage they'll no doubt be spending all night on is worthy.

I hope they don't weed out too much of the Grammys for her sake. Lord knows the producers usually are the ones that overdoes that. I know this isn't quite as related but remember John Candy when he died? I don't think he got all that much sympathy from the media. He deserved better and those that could vouch for that knows Candy was a great guy.

Truly a legend. I remember singing her songs at full force in my younger days, and I remember how great it was to me that Mariah Carey (another of my favorites to sing with) recognized Whitney as a legend and was inspired by her. She had a glorious voice and from what I've heard, was a wonderful person too.

I hate to be the jerkass about everything.

My family had a lot of Whitney Houston playing in the household growing up. I have 3 Bobby Brown cd's myself, and mom has a couple of hers, so these two were always in discussion at home.

One of the greatest talents of all time. However, this, in NO WAY, can deter me from the comedic opportunities presented by what transpired. I have enormous respect for her, and was always hoping for her revival and second coming. But please be patient with me as I crack whatever yuks I can with this. For the sake of comedy.

See that was different. Divas are supposed to live forever; fat comedians are supposed to die by their 40th birthday.

I was absolutely shocked, I read it on Twitter and was like, "No!" But I looked it up and there it was, Whitney Houston Dead at 48. I told my parents when they came home from shopping and they were like, "You're kidding me!" I remember hearing I Will Always Love You in my sleep when I was in the 1st or 2nd grade and I was having a good dream to the song so it brought happy memories every time I heard it. Such a big talent.

...I don't want to sound like a jerk but am I the only one that wasn't shocked by this at all? She has been looking pretty coked out for the past three years especially. Sad as it is I can't say I was blown away by it at all.

Apparently there was a pre-grammy party that was going on in the hotel the same time her body was being processed in the hotel room. Kind of odd that everyone was gettin boozed up and having a good time while her corpse was still in the building.

No, I wasn't all that surprised. Sad to say I almost expect a death when people are mixing with drugs.

Apparently she was taking heavy doses of anti-depresants and doing lots of drinking before she got in the bathtub. I think this is a pretty powerful message for people that drink and take pills together.

reposting my FB:

Ok, I've been avoiding the internet for the past week because I've been pretty distraught about Whitney's passing, and I wanted to remove myself from getting wrapped up in all the tabloids. There are 2 types of actions which make my blood boil:

1. When people wait until someone passes away to give them the respect they deserve, after years of bashing them (although I am at least thankful that they are finally having their coming to Jesus moment.) Nevertheless, thank you for finally acknowledging how great of a person she was.

2. When people STILL feel the need to discredit the deceased, and make nasty comments/jokes about the person. If you have no respect for that individual, then keep your freaking mouth shut and have the decency to let others mourn. No one is asking you to go out of your way pretending like you cared about them, but that doesn’t grant you a pass to be crass about it. There are people I don’t particularly know/care for, but I wouldn’t ever wish anything on them, and I certainly wouldn’t talk shit in their passing.

People did it with Michael, and now they are doing it with Whitney. Instead of beating people when they are down and shunning them, we need to be praying for them, and showing our support and love to help them break through their trials and tribulations. Whitney was a beautiful person with a beautiful voice, and she was very strong in her faith regardless of her struggles. The struggles she had were between her and God; we are not in the position to speculate. I have no doubt in my mind that she is with her Lord right now; please let her rest peacefully. God bless her soul, as well as her family in their time of mourning.

There’s so much more I want to say, but I won’t write a book about it. My main hope is that we treat each other with love and compassion while we’re on this earth, regardless of the differences we may have.
