The one my mind keeps going back to is from when I was 14 and in a local community theater show, a big musical with a big cast, including about 15 high school kids. Rehearsals started in the summer, just before my freshman year of high school, and I was coming off the living hell of middle school so I was expecting to be the total outcast of the group, etc.
I got sick and missed rehearsal for two days and when I came back... there was a big "welcome back" package of stuff waiting for me in the dressing room. All the other kids had put in money for it. No one my age had ever done anything that nice for me in years, if they ever had, and I just barely didn't cry in front of all of them. I still have the Badtz-Maru doll they got me!

Buy a house for me. I mean, yeah, I pay my parents rent, but there is no way I could be a home-owner with how little I make, and my apartment cost way too much for what it was.

at the beginning of last year, one of my buddies after finding out that I hadn't gotten anything for my birthday or Christmas and that I'd gone through a really stupid break up. FULLY BOUGHT ME THE TAUN TAUN SLEEPING BAG! (that I'd be dreaming of)

it's seriously the most expensive and awesome gift ever and was totally unexpected (he brought it to my 12th night of Christmas party where there gifts for whoever is King but I got the best present of all!!)

Yeah, I think getting flown out to BootyCon last year was the nicest thing anyone's done for me, ever.

The latest one is my friend getting me this job.

Shing and Jason paid for me to go to Burning Man last year, including my camp dues, Burn Ticket, transportation to and from the burn as well as supplying me with booze and recreational chemicals on demand for the whole time I was there. I brought a ton of food to share, my clothes for the week, my cot and that was about it.

Really, the thing that amazed me about it wasn't that they floated me a few hundred dollars of camp dues, drugs and whiskey. It was that they paid for me to go because they wanted me there. It's nice to cover someone so they can go to a convention or go out to dinner or whatever. It's another feeling altogether when they tell you "We want to share this thing with you and we think it will be even better with you there".

Also, Oli and Jonci covered my part of the hotel the last two BootyCons, which was uber sweet of them.

Kevin/Hero flew me out for my second trip out to Cali back in '06 in November, not to mention oodles of other things, but that one really sticks out considering at that point we still weren't dating yet.

Also, my friend Anthony has been really amazing to me as of late and whenever we go out together he's always picking up the tab. I'm really glad I got the chance to buy him drinks today.

Give birth to me. Seriously, I wouldn't even be here if it wasn't for that.

I would've just punched my way out of my mom's uterus had she decided not to give birth, personally. I would've been here regardless.

Back in the 90s after wadding myself up in a bike accident and consequently losing my job, my best bud floated me for several months to the tune of over 5k. Dude totally saved me from complete ruin. Took me over two years to pay him back but it wouldn't have mattered to him if it had been ten.

Still chokes me up when I think about it.

He's still my best bud and I'm still undeserving of his friendship.

I think I can accurately say that Otakubooty has kept my family from being homeless and starving. Not exaggerating.

Oh yeah, and able to get Quatto separated from Uma. That was a big one.

When I was having an incredibly hard time a bit over a year ago my mom came, pretty much packed and cleaned my apartment and moved me in with her. She paid the rent for the end of the lease, and the whole thing literally saved my life. Pretty much amazing.

One year I was struggling with two jobs to be able to afford to pay bills and community college tuition. When I went to speak to the guidance counselor to register for the classes I needed I ended up being $75 short for the math class I absolutely needed to take that semester. Without batting an eyelash this woman, who I had never met before in my life, said she would pay the difference for me and wouldn't take no for an answer. She said she just wanted to see me succeed. I was dumbfounded, my own family wouldn't have done that for me.

I'm also jumping on the Bootycon train. Without the generosity of several people (who I had never even met irl) I would never have had the pleasure of meeting so many of you amazing nerds.

Some guy wrote my name on his taint this one time. Not really sure what his deal was.

Do I really even need to post in this thread? Because it wasn't just one time, or twice, but the OB people have undoubtedly done and said some of the nicest things that have ever happened to me. True story. Changed my outlook on people. I'm just repeating what the chick up above (with the hard-to-see profile pic) said.

Here on OB, Ryan was nice enough to get me a free flight so I could attend Sausagefest this past fall. I thought that was pretty boss. Jonci as well, for giving me (and my cat) a place to stay when I would've been SOL after the lease in Jersey had expired. This place is awesome for nice people and the equally nice things they can do for their friends.

Thanks to this site, I don't even really think I can choose.

We probably should all be sending John here thank you cards for making all of our moments here possible. Maybe with money in them. Or lollipops. Or tiny ham things.

My two best friends out here have seriously been saving my life lately. They've helped me research my rights as a tenant, given me dating advice, accompanied me apartment hunting, played Devil's Advocate for big decisions, taught me to re-write my resume, given me insight into different mental health issues, taught me to stand up for myself and on top of all that they feed me regularly. If it weren't for them I'd probably stay complacently in this apartment for another year getting sicker.
