I'm going to Italy for a week for the first time and I'll be at the foodie capital of Bologna. Anyone been to Italy and have tips on what I NEED to consume?

Lardo, lardo, lardo, lardo and lardo. En croute, if you're nasty.

Disclaimer: I have not been to Italy and everything I know is from watching Anthony Bourdain on the Travel Channel, but at least I'm honest about it.

You are going to a hearty part of Italy (Emilia Romagna) which is known for their stewed and slowly braised meats. It is all beautiful countryside and farms around this area. Lamb is plenty and I would eat it up while you are there! It is so fresh and absolutely worth every bite when cooked slowly to perfection.

Pasta is not ruled out completely but they use polenta and rice a little more in this region because it compliments the meat better, also their food is a little more influenced by the Germans.

Also, butter and cream sauces are used a lot more then tomato based sauces in this region.

Hope this was helpful!

Eat all of the wild boar ragu.

Buy a huge bottle of properly aged balsamic vinegar and take it home with you. You will adore it until it runs out and then you'll be sad that it's all gone.

Avoid the tourist menu, and the subsequent argument with the staff about the price discrepancies on the bill. Yes, I wasn't at table that made that mistake.

There was a pasta stuffed with potatoes I had there that was filling and delicious, and I think it was called yoki? The ice cream/gelato is the best, especially from some corner store or cart on the street, if I remember correctly.

Avoid late lunches, because I remember the kitchens close for a bit in the afternoon.
Enjoy the cheese, wine, and avoid the pizza.

Could be Gnocchi which is a potato based pasta but it can be pretty heavy depending upon the portions and sauce. Still my favorite though.

Gnocchi is a pasta made WITH potatoes not stuffed with potatoes.

I believe what Devil Fruit had was Tortelli di Patata! It is sooooo delicious and I have only had it once but I dream about it!

Now if you had Yoki, then that is not traditional Italian. Yoki is a Brazilian dish and is a dumpling filled with potatoes, kind of like a pierogie.
PS: Guys, I am Italian as fuck... :(

It was 17 years ago...all I remember is that it had something with potatoes, ended with either a y or "I" sound, and was tasty!

So...the only solution here is for you to get gnocchi, tortellini do patata, and maybe yoki, and show us photos.
