So life has afforded me the opportunity to become a burlesque performer for a BBW group in Los Angeles! I have an audition coming up and would like some feedback on a good burlesque name! The names that I've come up with from Most Liked to Not Sure:

-Minnie the Monster
-Merci the Monster
(both plays on Minnie the Moocher/Minnie Mouse, could do with or without "the")
-(s)Aint Chimo (don't know if the parenthesis or capitalization will stay in some billings)
-Sister Merci

I'd really like feedback! What do you guys think?

I like Sister Merci or maybe Sister Mercy. I have visions of a hot nun!

I like Sweet Mercy & Sister Mercy. Personally I love having my real name in my stage name, it just makes things easier. Sister Mercy will give you a vague goth/fetish impression.

I advise against using wacky spelling or parentheses-- your name WILL ger misspelled everywhere and it's hard to google and hard to market. If you want to do burlesque for a long time, I'd stay away from anything obvious, like plays on Minnie the Moocher or words like "cherry." But if you just want to do it for fun for a little while, then go for it.

Thank you everyone for your input! I'm going to have to say that Sister Merci looks like a favorite at the moment! I like Sweet Mercy but I want to stay away from the word "sweet" as there are a lot of names like this. (Same reason I stayed away from the names Kitty and Ophelia) Merci Beaucoup is nice too but I think I'm too Mexican for a full fledged French name. Also, as Pam noted, it is taken.

I was also thinking of Merci Mia, "mia" being a play on the Spanish word for "mine" or "me", or Merci Me but I already have my tumblr and Facebook with that url name and while I do want to have my name in the stage name, I don't want it directly linked to my things automatically.

Pam, thank you SO MUCH for this info, this is exactly what I needed!!! I joined both groups and am having a lot of fun reading up on all this information!

I'm auditioning for a group called Voluptuous Entertainment. My acts so far consist of a striptease with stoles or fans leading up to a reveal of clever or relevant pasties. I'm developing a comical boudoir act where I try on several pairs of stockings and props depending on the change of the music. I also sing a few jazz/trip hop songs while I dance and am going to be dabbling in some comedy when the time comes. I don't know if any of you guys have ever seen me argue with MPsy but I'm told it is hilarious! In the future I'd like to get a hula hoop act going, I hadn't touched one in a long time so I'm rusty as hell!

Those sound like good things that could be used in an intro for a performer, but less so as stage names, in my opinion. What about Merci Killings, or Mercades Bends (intentionally punny/misspelled...)?

Yeah, Lauren- I was playing with those phrases as an idea for a tagline, but I didn't get anywhere clever with it. You want the name to be immediately identifiable as a name. A great tagline will punch it up and make ppl remember you. Any of the names would be great with an intro that always ends you'll wish she will clap and she'll she's gonna "...show you mercy!"
