Imagine sunshine while masturbating in the shower?

I saw a softcore porno once where a woman was masturbating to images of herself masturbating to images of herself banging a dude.

Think Inception with the first two levels being her masturbating. And this was back in the 80s, when the only people who understood recursion were Lisp programmers.

FFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFFUCK. That story was awful. I never ever want to be in your position John. I always want to rip my hair out when I do the smallest fix for my parents over the phone, I can not IMAGINE the shit you just went through.
PS: Oh also, just wanna say, when that IIS7 image first started loading, I thought your upgrade was a huge surprise in disguise for OB 2.0

Thanks for nothing.

By the way, seem to be missing some FOPs and profile pictures. Just in case you weren't already painfully aware and pulling your hair out over it.

So, the IPv6 thing was a red herring. Yes, disabling it immediately fixed the network connectivity, but then network connectivity shit the bed again about 5 hours later.

So I drove out there again this evening.

I guess that disabling IPv6 probably also reset the network card (or reloaded the driver, or whatever else happens under the hood) and that's what immediately restored network connectivity.

So I flailed around a little more. Found network drivers that were newer than the ones 2008 R2 installed. The server has two Intel PRO 1000 PM NICs and a Intel PRO 100 S NIC. In my experience Intel's shit is very stable. But, anyway, I upgraded the drivers.

I also connected a second NIC to the switch at the data center. This NIC has a separate IP address. Then I installed LogMeIn, which runs as a service and talks to the LogMeIn.com server and lets you connect remotely even if no incoming connection is possible.

So, theoretically, if the first NIC shits the bed again, OtakuBooty.com will be unavailable, but I should be able to connect via LogMeIn and reset the bed-shitting NIC.

It's actually possible that the NIC is bad. But it was stable for like, five fucking years, so I don't think the hardware just randomly failed when I installed 2008 R2. So as painful as it is I'm trying to change like one variable at a time here in order to hopefully eventually isolate that shit.

Do they stay missing even if you shift+reload? If so, can you tell me which ones?

God DAMN. I am so sorry that sucks such incredible ass. I remember reinstalling Server 2003 at work, and it was so tedious, setting up the RAID arrays, and all that. On TOP of that, They use AD, so the domain had to be reconfigured and everything sucked ass. I feel your pain, but I'm glad shit is working!

Didn't help.

I don't know exactly what the deal is but it's a time frame of upload that seems to be missing. This translates to pages 51-65 or so of my FOPs being nothing but broken links. In the effort of making this easier for you my FOPs are missing.

Yeah, I just checked mine out and seeing the same kind of thing. I was jumping 2 pages at a time so it wouldn't take too long, and they were mostly there except for a couple pages that just showed broken links for about half the pics. Then around page 79 they were mostly all gone, though the occasional page had some here and there, until page 111 when they were all back again.

You know, I've only had good experiences with 2003 and 2003 R2. OB's server was so solid on it, and I used it in a few workplaces. The only "hiccup" we had was when I used some non-Intel SSDs and they shit the bed -- that was the disaster when we were down for a few days.

I never really admin'ed a Windows server with AD, though. I've used them, but they were run by others.

2008 R2 has also been really solid in my book. This weekend's bullshit seems mostly seems like hardware/driver stuff. Except for the ASP weirdness which, in fairness, appears to have been an issue with IIS7 doing one particular thing in a stricter way. IIS6 appears to have been allowing something sloppy to work.

This shit just got escalated.
PS: Okay. I got the FOPs sorted out. Out of 80,000 FOPs there were a couple thousand with fucked up permissions. They should all just be inheriting permissions from the parent directory properly and sanely now.

What's funny is what this means, essentially, is that I dicked around with folder permissions and F5'd Stuntcocks missing FOPs until I saw a nice huge picture of his balls on my 30" monitor.

Think it's the same deal with the member pictures, except with less of Sean's ballsack. Server is in the process of resetting all those perms too. Should be good now, although I didn't have particular member pics to test with. And I don't care as much because it's not Sean's balls.

Since your balls were already my desktop background, it created kind of a "hall of mirrors" effect. Except it was a hall of balls.

So it turns out that the solution for copying a lot of files on Windows is uh.... rsync. The thing I was complaining about Windows not having.

1.) Install Cygwin (gives you a lot of common Unix utilities on Windows)
2.) Use rsync like normal
rsync -avx /cygdrive/c/foo/bar /cygdrive/d/baz/barf
Seems like it's the only way to go if you're copying a few hundred thousand files.

That, or boot a Linux LiveCD and use the user-mode ntfs3g tools (and kernel driver) and sync that way across NTFS partitions. Only thing I am not sure of is how stable/safe the write support is.

How about some HTTPS support, btw?

This is next on my to-do list after BC.

Because of some design decisions I made early on -- when we were desperate to get a growing site performing well on a budget-ass shared host -- the current site won't work with multiple domains pointing at it. So I can't just make a separate https://otakubooty.com in addition to the regular http://otakubooty.com

It can be done and we'll do it! Just need to work out a few issues.

Interesting. I'm a little familiar with some of the issues that vhosts on Apache can cause, but HTTPS I didn't think would be a problem, since you're just piping the same data over a different port, only encrypted. Unless it has something to do with the code needing to know the actual domain being requested so it can fetch it. This was an issue on Apache in using vhosts over SSL, because the connection goes encrypted before it knows the domain name, but they somehow fixed that.
