Who wants to play? This thread is for recruitment and questions. I'll make a new thread later.

Rule Source: 4th Edition. It's the only version I know.

Game Description: The Dank Cave of Horribleness has a new master, Thaug, the Lich Lord, and he's not too particularly happy about this arrangement.

After a long night of drinking forbidden brew from the abyss with his colleagues, Thaug lost his phylactery in a gambling game to Kegs, a mischievous imp with unfathomable power. The only way for Thaug to get his phylactery back is to pay the imp an indescribable amount of riches, which lead to Keg loaning the lich the Dank Cave of Horribleness as home base.

The game plan Thaug has made is simple: lure adventurers, kill adventurers, and loot adventurers. Not the most cunning plan, but it is the simplest way for a minion to understand, and this minion is you!

You are a summoned spirit with a bad case of amnesia, but a strong will to succeed. As a spirit you are able to take possession of different monsters that Thaug has delivered to the cave and control as you see fit for each encounter with would-be adventure parties. The more adventurers you kill equals the more infamy the cave gains. The more infamous the cave becomes equals the more "brave" adventures to visit. And the braver the adventurers equals the more riches on hand to loot.

Throughout the game the layout of the cave will change as Thaug will make renovations and changes as he sees fit. He'll have stronger monsters delivered to home base for you to possess and utilize. Eventually, Thaug will reclaim his phylactery and award the best monster with life once again. It should be noted that Thaug doesn't care who kisses his feet and who soils on others as long as he's making bank. Backstabbing and secrecy is encouraged, especially by the Lich Lord.

Who will climb the Corporate Ladder of Doom the fastest?

Information: For this game you will need to have at least one Monster Manual, although having all three manuals will open for more flexibility.

You will not need to roll a character because the monster manuals will have monsters for you to choose from! The game will start with level 5 monsters, so you can choose a Blazing Skeleton or a Dwarf Hammerer or the like. When you gain a level, you will change monsters, so at level 6 you can choose a Harpy or Mad Wraith or something of equal experience.

Also, you can mix and match monsters equal to your level. For instance, if you are level 8, you can choose a level 3 Goblin Skullcleaver and a level 5 Slaad Tadpole to control or four level 2 Hyenas or however you want to do it!

Each time a player defeats an individual enemy, that player gains a kill point. After a certain number of kill points, your character will level up to the next tier. Each level increases the kill points needed to level up by 5. For example, to get to level 6 you need to kill 5 adventurers, then to get to level 7 you need to kill 10 more adventurers, so on and so forth.

If a player happens to die to an adventurer, he or she is gone for the encounter and will reappear by the next encounter. If all of the players die, then Thaug intervenes and penalizes everyone by removing kill points.

Role-playing will have a presence, but not overly heavy or serious. This is a lighthearted, fun game of miscellaneous encounters, backstabbing your way up the corporate ladder, and other silly things.

If you don't have any materials, but wish to play I can send you the necessary documents/sources.

Other Rules

General:

-This campaign has a moderate pace of being updated by me 1-2 times a day and/or updated by other players possibly 3 or more times a day.
-If you do not post for 72 hours without giving me any notice of your absence, I will write your character out of the story and have that character in the background.
-If you do not post after a full week or you are too frequently absent, then your character will be killed.
-We will use an honor system for dice rolls, so post your calculations and results, including the attack, damage, and other factors.
-Have fun!

Outside of Encounters/Battles:

- I will post roughly around every 12 hours from my last post or when I see everybody has posted at least once to update the story.
-If you want to apply skill checks somehow, add an Out of Character (OOC) block to your post that describes what skill you want to use, how you are using it, and it's result. I will resolve (or dismiss) these skill check rolls in my posts.
- I will post NPC responses and perform other random things. I like the sound of dice rolling.
- You may post however many times you like.

Encounter Segments:

- If a character wishes to initiate a battle, I will reply whether it is allowed or not (based on a number of factors).
- I will announce when a battle is initiated and I will make initiative rolls for everyone involved.
- You will have 12-24 hours to post when your turn comes around. If you miss your deadline, your turn will be delayed until it comes full circle.
- There will be group initiative. When there are a group of players in line to roll, anyone in that group can post their responses at any time, then I will resolve the turns in the order that they finish

Example: Initiative order - Player 1, Monster 1, Monster 2, Player 2, Player 3, Player 4. Player 1 makes his move, then it resolves. Monsters 1 and 2 make their moves, then resolves. Players 2, 3, and 4 are grouped together. Since there is no need to wait, Player 4 makes his move, then Player 2 makes his post, then finally Player 3 gets around to playing. I resolve the moves in order of 4, 2, 3. Any other orders, like 3, 2, 4 or 4, 3, 2 or 2, 3, 4 or whatever are possible to. Group initiative allows the game to flow faster without waiting for a particular player.

- When you act on a delayed turn, the order of your initiative will now be at the time you took your turn, wherever that may be.
- You do not need to wait for me to tell you when it is your turn. When the person before you goes, you have 12-24 hours from their post to take your turn before you are delayed.
- When I log on, I'll resolve any actions to update you on how well the action is going.
- If you're targeting the same enemy as the person before you AND before I log on to update and resolve actions, make a "back-up plan" in your post just in case that enemy would be dead.
-Sometimes I will dictate roles in a particular encounter for the hell of it.

Traps:

-You will earn gold from the adventurers that you defeat. You can spend gold to buy traps to litter throughout the dungeon. Each trap is worth 10% of it's XP value multiplied by the level.

For instance:
Level 1 Poison Needle = 100 XP. 10% of 100 = 10 x Level 1 = costs 10 gold.
Level 3 Gravity Well = 150 XP. 10% of 150 = 15 x Level 3 = costs 45 gold.
Level 5 Falling Blocks = 200 XP. 10% of 200 = 20 x Level 5 = costs 100 gold.

-Traps that you buy can level up and change as your character level increases.
-Traps will carry over to the next encounter and can be moved around the map as you see fit, unless they are destroyed or permanently disarmed somehow.
-Traps will affect all characters, including your own monster(s) and heroes.

Map:

-The map will be drawn in Google Docs under Drawing.
-The map will stay the same for the most part, but after each encounter the players will have an opportunity to add spaces wherever he or she likes. So, you guys are building the dungeon.

I will add and change rules as I see fit.

I have a bunch of 4e books. Pretty sure I have two of the Monster Manuals. Can't say about the third without getting home and checking the shelf. I'd like to give the game a shot.

I've sent all the players links...to Amazon. Players will choose a level five creature (or a combination of) and players may choose a level one trap. I will make a new thread once choices have been made.

I'll start with an Ettercap Webspinner and a lvl-1 False Floor pit which drops into a sticky web.

Am I doing this right?

Put me down as a Bugbear Warrior. My trap shall be False Floor Pit as well, but no web - just cold hard stone!
