Do you have some quotes that help get you motivated, or make you feel better when you're down? Some personal motto you've adopted from the words of someone else or just picked up along the way?

Share some of your favs here.

My personal favorite of all time is "A wild thing may say wild things," from Arthur Miller's "The Crucible." That scene is usually omitted from stage productions but is in the original script.

My current motto is "I DESTROYED A UNIVERSE" from Mantrid in several episodes of Lexx. I have written it in huge block letters on sheets I have posted around the house. I mean, Jesus, the guy destroyed an entire fucking universe. That's pretty good.

-"Talitha, koum!" from the book of Mark in the Bible. It means, "Damsel, I say unto thee, arise!" I love that quote because in the book, the little girl is dead but Jesus says she is sleeping. After he beckons her to wake, she walks around. Its sort of like, you're not down and out, you're just down, you can get back up. Anything is possible, you just need the right motivator.

-"Catch me, heal me, lead me back into the sun, help me survive the bottom!…I choose to live." From the song Gravity by A Perfect Circle. This is such an inspiration to me because, as some of you know, I struggle with mental illnesses and am plagued by destructive idealisations. But I know I must overcome because I want to live on despite my illness.

I plan on having these things tattooed on me.

"Give up on trying to make me give up" and "faith is better then any plan" are my current motivational phrases when I don't think "for those who don't believe in themselves, hard work is meaningless" or that I can overcome talent by becoming a "genius of effort"

The other one I try to use is the "act as if" speech from boiler room

"Everyone is a genius. However, if you judge a fish by it's ability to climb a tree, it's going to live it's whole life believing it's stupid" - Einstein

I think about this when I measure myself to all the inappropriate standards around us.

Somebody said:
Each bear wore a full-color laminated label identifying it as such complete with bar code from another toy. Inside the folded tag was the text:

"Unfortunate Child, do not mistake me for living thing, nor seek in me the warmth denied you by your parents. For beneath my plush surface lies a hardness as impervious and unforgiving as this World's own indifference to your mortal struggle. Hold on to me when you are sad, and I will weigh you down, but bear this weight throughout your years, and it will strengthen your limbs and harden your will so that one day no man dare oppose you."

Working in the gaming industry I often use the quote from Benjamin Franklin to try to explain to people why I have such a passion for it, or as a way to fire up my own drive when I start to burn out:
"We do not stop playing because we grow old, we grow old because we stop playing."

My mom has this poem hanging in the bathroom next to the toilet. I often contemplate on it when I take a shit, and really, it's quite wonderful and encouraging.

"Go placidly amidst the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence. As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons. Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story."

I use the phrase: "Be champions." It comes from a satirical soccer series called Special 1 TV. The main anchor uses the phrase as his sign off every episode.

I also find the book of poems The Prophet by Khalil Gibran to be really inspiring and try to recommend it whenever possible. Some of the concepts in it are so simple and can change your life in the best way.
