I've been hearing bits and pieces about faux meat and eggs, as well as lab-grown proteins, for a good while now - this is a good article that covers both non-meat meat alternatives like those being pioneered by Beyond Meat as well as lab-grown muscle tissues that can be formed into meat products:

It's pretty intriguing, especially the lab-grown meat section - I hadn't given much thought to the "printed meat" concept, or the fact that a limiting factor to its acceptability would be the lack of fat and blood, which gives meat alot of its actual flavor!

Segment containing best quote:

And if fake meat doesn’t have to perfectly mimic real meat, it can be made even better than the real thing. The teams at Beyond Meat and Modern Meadow envision super meats enhanced with things like omega-3 fatty acids and extra vitamins. “You could eat a Beyond Meat Philly cheesesteak that lowers your cholesterol and gives you sexual prowess,” Brown says. He is only half joking.

Sexy Philly Cheesesteak? Yes please!

This absolutely revolts me, for absolutely no logical reason.

Logically, killing an innocent animal should upset me more than the concept of synthetic meat.

I'm not even sure I could be okay with this if I put a lot of effort into it.

Does the plant-based meat also repel you? I mean it's basically just plant proteins processed to seem a bit more like muscle tissue. Yeah, it sounds a little weird, but I feel like it's LESS weird than the muscle-cells-grown-in-a-lab-and-made-into-meat-flaps route.

I guess what I'm posing is a "Would you rather?" between 2 rather odd protein options.
PS: Which you can freely interpret as "eat" or "have sex with." Or, "eat, THEN have sex with." However you want to roll/whichever is funnier.

I for one am excited by the idea of growing perfectly marbled meat in a lab, more beautiful than any steak ever dreamed by god.

Actually, I'm guilty of misreading what you wrote, which lead to me not reading the article!

I thought that Beyond Meat was doing the "lab-grown muscle tissues" thing. I was wrong; it's a textured vegetable/grain product and it looks pretty tasty to me!
