Keeping this away from FB and other sites.

I put in my two weeks notice about a month ago. I had been with that company for 16 years, I started out as a forklift driver, and reached as high as a senior manager. My title was Continous Improvement Manager, but in November my position along with many others was cut. I decided to take a lower position and try and stick it out until something within the company popped up.

I couldn't do it, eight months later, here I am unemployed and taking the rest of the year off. I couldn't be happier. I am finishing acquiring my Bachelors by the of the year.

Around December or January is when I will begin looking for work, I feel so relaxed these past few weeks. No more 11 hour days, no more 1 and 1.5-hour commutes. I now have the chance to partake in my hobbies again and spend time with friends I have distanced myself from. I also plan on traveling to Europe in November.

This fucking post made my dick hard. I'm kind of going through something similar, and have been harboring more negative notions about it. Rock this!

Hah! Maybe it's just a good year for quitting your dead end job and taking some time for yourself. Is this what a mid life crisis is? Because fuck do I feel you so hard on this. I quit my shitty, abusive job at the end of May and I'm only just starting to enjoy my unemployment. I think I'm going to sell a bunch of my stock, which is doing well, and take off even more time. I'm trying to find a way to take to the sea.

The "mid-life crisis" thing did cross my mind. I know that I am extremely lucky to be able to do this financially. The credit for that goes to Reddit and the sub /r/personalfinance and /r/FI/RE.

It was an extremely difficult decision to take, but I do not regret it at all. I know that I reached a point in my life where time was more valuable for me. So much so that the next job I take I will try to negotiate more benefit/vacation time for a decrease in salary.

The reaction I have seen when I tell some of my close friends is "OMG what are you going to do? And are you ok?" My cousin is afraid I will fall into a depression; I keep telling them, no worries I'm fine.

It is a scary thought, but I learned your job/career doesn't define you. You have to do what makes you I won't say happy, but at least content and less miserable.
