Love Hina, Graphic Novel Vol. 1
Meet Keitaro Urashima, your classic failure example. After flunking the Tokyo U entrance exams for the second time, the uneducated and unemployed slacker gets kicked out of his house by his parents. Having nowhere else to go, he decides to head off to his Grandmother’s resort, the Hinata Lodge. She has agreed to take Keitaro in as the caretaker. Apparently she has forgotten to mention one significant detail to him… the lodge is no longer a hotel, but now has been changed to an all girls dormitory. Keitaro now finds himself to be the only male in the Hinata Lodge surrounded by Naru Narusegawa, Mitsune Konno, Motoko Aoyama, Shinobu Maehara and Suu Kaolla. One aspect of the story line I especially like is that reoccurring theme of how he promised a girl when he was little that they’d meet again in Tokyo U. There are hints throughout the show as to whom that girl might be now…but in the first graphic novel they never point any fingers, only suggest the direction you should be looking.Created by Akamatsu Ken, Love Hina has won the Kodansha Manga of the Year award. Character designs are smooth and fairly realistic. Another $10 buy from Tokyopop, it's easily affordable. Once you pick up a copy and start reading all the plot and humor, you’ll soon see why it won Manga of the Year.Buy It From Amazon: Love Hina
