Mario Kart - First Impression
I picked this up last night, and I've been playing it ever since. After pouring hundreds of hours into Disgaea, it's nice to pick up a game that I can play for a few minutes at a time. It's the mostly the same old Mario Kart formula, but there's absolutely nothing wrong with that. Graphics are very good, frame rate is smooth, controls are tight, and the track design is absolutely brilliant. After playing this against a friend, as well as against the computer, I can definitely say this game is a winner.
This game has gotten mostly excellent reviews around the web. A few people have criticized it for a lack of unlockable extras. What do they want- Grand Theft Auto: Mushroom Kingdom? Yeah, it would be nice to see a few more unlockables, but this game has a different kind of longevity- the moment you play this game, you know it's something you'll still be playing years down the line, when friends stop by or you need a quick dose of gaming fun. That's what Mario Kart is all about.
Usually I don't give a rating to something after a first impression, but this is Mario Kart. You know?
