Forbes Profiles ADV Films
You don't often hear much about the business side of anime, since most American companies are privately-owned and tight-lipped when it comes to numbers. OtakuBooty member Feuilly found this Forbes article about ADV films.
For exclusive distribution rights to the world outside Japan, ADV pays $1 million to $2.6 million for an anime series and $500,000 to $5 million for a feature film. Remastering the sound costs another $10,000 to $20,000 per half-hour. That's done at ADV's Houston production center-featuring eight soundproof studios with mission-control-style consoles to upgrade soundtracks. "If a gun slides out a turret door, Americans want to hear it make a sound," says Kevin Corcoran, ADV's chief operating officer, who joined the company four years ago. An army of 400 voice actors dub the films into English.Interesting stuff. I've never seen actual financial numbers attached to this stuff before.
