OtakuBooty Members Weigh In On GITS2: Innocence DVD

I recently posted a story about the Ghost In The Shell 2: Innocence DVD and some problems regarding a sub-par subtitling effort and lack of dub track. OB member neverknowsbest gave his opinion on the matter:
"I was surprised that there wasn't a dub, but I would never have watched it anyway, so I don't care. I didn't mind the subtitles at all. Whoever wrote that is seriously making a big deal out of nothing. Yes, there are ambient noise subs, but they're not that frequent and you get used to them quickly. The video quality is otherwise perfect, and I didn't think the sub font or location was a problem at any point in the movie. After the initial surprise in seeing the ambient noise subs, I never noticed them again. It doesn't detract from the experience at all.

The movie is good enough that it's worth buying even if the subs are less than perfect (and they're not even that bad). I think Dreamworks treated this simply as a foreign film, and not specifically an anime film. Most foreign films are subtitle only, since it's obviously much harder to dub live action in a realistic manner. As for the closed caption-like subtitles, who knows. Like I said before, it doesn't hamper the experience. You're doing yourself a disfavor if you don't buy this movie because of 'bad subs.'"
It's also worth noting that the DVDTalk review I originally referenced concluded that...
"...this is an excellent movie, one fans of the original Ghost in the Shell will enjoy. It's impossible to highly recommend this DVD, but it's a must rental for anime fans in general and a Recommended purchase for the Ghost in the Shell faithful."
