Incredible DVD
The Incredibles is finally out on DVD, and while it remains an awesome film, the special features lack a lot of the Pixar charm. The movie is amazing. That's a given. The quality of the picture is downright insane; I watch almost everything on my computer, so I'm used to a slightly fuzzy picture, but The Incredibles is clear and sharp, and gave me new appreciation for all of the detail in the animation.
The bonus features aren't all that great, though. Commentary I was hoping to get some fun trivia or facts out of the commentary, but I was disappointed. While I was given new respect for particular scenes while listening to Brad Bird's commentary, it was fairly dull. Pointing out how this scene was really tough, or the lighting here was really good, or every animator that worked on every scene... it got boring pretty quickly. Something held my interest, though, because I did watch it with the commentary all the way through. I wouldn't recommend this if you have a life, though. Your other choice is an entire team of animators. I switched that off about 5 minutes in. There are 15 of them. It's impossible to distinguish between them and I didn't get a single thing out of those 5 minutes. Short Films "Boundin'" has got to be my favorite Pixar short ever. I love it. The DVD features a really short behind the scenes, the short itself, and commentary by Bud Luckey (the character designer, director, and voices). It's really cute and very laid back. I wish the feature commentary was quite as focused. My only gripe is that you can't watch it before the feature without switching discs. "Jack-Jack Attack" is new. It's quite well done and really entertaining. You should definitely watch it. Incredi-blunders Lame. Quite lame. I'm a big Pixar fan, and I absolutely love the bloopers added to each film. This one... doesn't really have any. And it has canned laughter, which makes me cringe. Deleted scenes Semi-interesting to the development of the story, and I like the art style, but there's a lot of talking that you can't avoid, and the talking's mildly interesting at best. Behind the scenes Not noteworthy. Pretty much what you'd expect. It continues to pound in the idea that they did their jobs so well, the rest of us didn't notice. Oh, and they did a lot of work. That comes up sometimes, too. There's also a segment with the voice of Violet. I don't recommend it. Mr. Incredible and Pals This is downright hilarious in an Adult Swim kind of way. I suggest watching it late at night or when you're feeling easy to amuse... you'll get the full effect. The commentary is even better. NSA files Information and recordings about minor supers barely (if at all) featured in the film. I get a kick out of this, particularly the recordings. I most recommend Downburst, Elastigirl, Gazerbeam, Mr. Incredible, Stormicide, Thunderhead, and Universal Man. I give it the full 4 pimps, because it's The Incredibles and the special features aren't entirely worthless. Related Articles At OtakuBooty:
