NerdPr0n Interview: DIY Porn For Nerds (Part 2) Part 2 of of our interview with Anna is now up! She was kind enough to answer some last-minute additional questions for me that I should have asked much sooner. Blame your webmaster for the delay, not Anna.In this part of the interview, Anna talks about the technical aspects of NerdPr0n.com, the future of her site, and what she's into at the moment. If you're looking for an introduction to what Anna does, check out Part 1 first. OtakuBooty: Give all the coders and developers out there a little something to chew on. Can you talk about the hardware and software that Nerdpr0n runs on? Any big technical challenges you faced and overcame in getting the site up?
Anna: The server is a pretty basic setup, running Fedora Core 4. Since I don't actually know anybody in the adult industry, code- or otherwise, and dislike how many adult sites do manage their content, I reinvented the wheel many times trying to come up with a good way to deliver and manage content, and settled on a combination of a Movable Type blog and gallery generators. I've looked at several content managers such as Mambo, but none of them have really fit the bill for my site, as my site is really much like a blog with lots and lots of pretty pictures. I'm pretty happy with how I've got it set up, but I'm also always on the lookout for a better system. OtakuBooty: What kind of guys do you find yourself attracted to, in real life and in your daydreams? When it comes to reality, have you found yourself dating in or out of the geek world? Anna: I have always dated within the geek world. Always. Even when I was 14 and it was 1995 and I had to dial up to BBSes. Every single one of my boyfriends and girlfriends I met online...with the exception of the one I met at a party that some of my online friends gave, so I think that damn near counts. I have slept with many more people than I've dated, some of them from the offline world, and I'm ashamed to admit that on occasson I have slept with people that I would just as soon punch as talk to. Thankfully those are quite rare, and damn near unheard of nowadays. I'm a big believer in casual sex for sex's sake, but nowadays I demand as much personality-wise from my sexual partners as I do with my actual partners, minus all the commitment and lovey-dovey crap. My sexuality is a gift...why give it to someone too dumb to appreciate it? Also, smart people are just plain better in bed. They pay more attention to what works and doesn't work, and are far more giving and considerate. I'm too old (creaky at the age of 25, hehe) to waste my time with people who can't be bothered to invest the brain cells needed to make me, and themselves, happy. ![]() If you're looking for a quick list of what I find attractive, that's a little harder. I love long hair on both men and women, I love a good sense of humor, and I adore smarts. Other than that, though, the people I've dated have been so widely different that it's hard to say I really have a 'type'. OtakuBooty: Do you ever feel like the geek world has gotten too fragmented? We have RPG geeks, coders, furries (yuck), gamers, etc. Anna: No, I don't....when's the last time you met a geek who was only geeky in one way? Every geek I know has a veritable Venn diagram of geekiness. ;) Embrace diversity! The next geek you meet might introduce you to your next big hobby. 'twas a tech geek who introduced me to comics, 'twas a comics geek who introduced me to the online world, 'twas a gamer who introduced me to the Ren Faire... OtakuBooty: What are you into at the moment, entertainment- and technology-wise? Anna: I never lack for entertainment. I'm still following Y: The Last Man (which is ending soon...pout), Fables, and Fell. I'm eating up books as soon as I can get them, and I tend to follow patterns. Lately I've been reading a lot of memoirs and a lot of astronomy-related stuff (I'm trying to get a better grip on physics, for instance), and I'm getting back into feminist sci-fi (yes, it's a genre!). I've been watching 4400 on DVD and following Adult Swim, as usual, and Battlestar Galactica is probably my favorite series at the moment. Technology-wise, someday, someone will love me enough to buy me some USB Batteries, but only after I also score an LED-illuminated USB hub. ;) And anytime anybody asks me for desktop recommendations, I point the way to Shuttle, who makes cases that I fucking adore. Tiny! OtakuBooty: What's the geeky thing you'd love to get into, but simply haven't had the time to explore yet?Anna: Between my class schedule, my work, and the site, I haven't had the chance to really get into some of the newer games that are coming out. I'd love to kick ass at HorrorClix but all I can do is manage a game here and there. OtakuBooty: What's the future of NerdPr0n? Can you see it becoming a brand like SuicideGirls? Anna: Heh...no. I sort of hate SuicideGirls, because they're incredibly corporate, and they suck just as much as an mainstream pornsite. They treat their models like crap and are not actually women-owned and women-operated. Nerdpr0n is more about fun than about becoming bigger and badder and more successful. The more my site expands, the more of my own dreams and wishes I can fulfill (site-wise and personally), but I think I would seriously sacrifice my own happiness if I took steps to become huge. I love that it's just me running it, and the day it became so large and unwieldy that I had to hire people to help me manage it is the day it starts to seriously suck. Also, I notice a very definite pattern - once people 'make it big', a lot of the time, they begin to lose heart. I'd hate to lose heart in this website, which I've poured so much work into. Not to mention...I am not really a porn star. I'm just a chick running a site for shits, giggles, and video game money, and I would not be comfortable becoming a porn star. Most of my site is pretty softcore because that's what I'm comfortable with, and I feel like a lot of the expansion I can do from this point involves doing things I'm not comfortable with - movies, hardcore every week, cybersex with members - and I won't compromise myself for that. Everything you see, including the ocassional saucy shoots with my girlfriends and boyfriend, is up because I want it to be up. I have made my own life suck too many times in the past to compromise my happiness again. There ain't much to life if you can't be happy, and I try not to lose sight of that. This wraps up our interview with Anna. Big thanks to her and best of luck to her as well. Next up is an interview with one of OtakuBooty's own members that, instead of complaining about the publishing industry, decided to go into publishing for herself... -OB Related Articles At OtakuBooty:
